Nemours Alfred I duPont Hospital for Children is a destination for families from around the world for our cutting edge technologies and ground breaking treatments for children needing care for their lymphatics system. The lymphatics system is one of the essential body systems and part of water metabolism. Until recently children with lymphatic disease often had issues finding a pediatric focused health system to treat their child, or they went undiagnosed. The lymphatic system is responsible for removal of the fluid from the body’s tissues, and then puts the fluid back into venous circulation. The Nemours Lymphatics Program uses a multidisciplinary approach, ensuring that there is expertise in caring for the entire range of lymphatic flow disorders, including Plastic Bronchitis, protein losing enteropathy (PLE), and chylous pleural effusions in cardiac patients. The Nemours Lymphatics team recently discovered and treated a new source of plastic bronchitis arising from the liver. This may account for up to 6% of Fontan patients who were previously unable to be cured. The team has also developed a new imaging and interventional techniques, allowing insight into pathophysiology of variety of the disease processes, such as chylothorax, lymphatic malformation, PLE, plastic bronchitis and more. Our program has treated patients from all over the world and has worked through language and travel barriers. With a coordination team in place to help you from start to finish, Nemours Lymphatics program will help your child receive the care they need with a helping hand every step of the way.
